I showed a little while back a Gundam Robot Ice cream and much better than this ice cream arcade machine but this is different. This is a real robot that makes and serves you nice Japanese Soft Cream icecream.
You simply make your ice cream selection on a touch-screen then the ice cream robot picks out a cone and fills it up with creamy vanilla soft-cream (soft serve ice cream). After that is done it then drizzles the chocolate (or whatever you picked) sauce over it, adds crunchy toppings like nuts to finish it off. Once that is done it passes your Japanese ice cream through the serving window for you to take and eat.

This Japanese ice cream is really just a different flavoured Monaka bar – like the chocolate ice cream Monaka and jersey milk vanilla ice cream Monaka bars. This one tastes like strawberry/rasberry ice cream to me, I haven’t got a clue what makes it Italian flavour.

It was nice but nothing really special.

How to make Japanese Tempura Icecream - recipe

Everyone has probably tried fried ice cream before but here is something a little different. How to make Japanese Tempura Icecream - the Japanese tempura batter is really light and make a nice crispy and crunchy shell around your favourite Japanese ice-cream flavours. The hot crispy batter matches really well with the soft, smooth and creamy ice cream inside.

This ice cream recipe isn't too difficult to make, the tricky part is to have the oil hot enough to cook and crisp up the tempura batter before the ice cream melts.

The ingredients needed are:

    1 cup of plain flour
    1 egg
    1 cup of ice-cold water
    1 teaspoon of baking soda
    1 teaspoon of vanilla extract just to give the tempura a little taste, I like it but you can drop it if you want
    Enough vegetable oil to deep fry - not olive oil or any other that has a flavour
    1/2 a litre of ice cream, what ever flavour you want, try just vanilla to start with. (here is a great recipe for vanilla ice cream) or maybe a nice sea-salt ice cream.

How to make it:

Just use any old ice cream scoop to scoop out and make nice, even sized ice cream balls and put them on a tray ready to use back in the freezer to get as frozen as possible. Have them in the freezer for at least a couple of hours - even better, do this the day before.

Pour the oil into a deep fryer or a big saucepan, enough so that you can deep fry the tempura balls. I would say have the oil on a medium to high heat, as I said before not to low because the ice cream will melt before the batter is cooked and too high the batter will over cook on the outside before the inside is done. The oil temperature should be about 200c.

In a mixing bowl sift the flour and baking soda together, do it twice to make sure.

Beat the egg in a bowl, just a little, say until the yolk has broken and is just beginning to froth up.

Then add the vanilla and the ice-cold water to the beaten egg and mix well.

Combine the egg and flour mixtures and whisk them until they are just combined, don't over whisk, that is the trick with tempura and how to keep it light. Don't worry if there are still a couple of lumps still. A great tip is to have this bowl on ice so the batter stays cold.

Get your frozen ice cream balls out of the freezer, take one and dip it into the tempura batter - make sure it is covered evenly.

Drop the ice cream ball into the hot oil - very carefully and cook until it is just slightly golden - tempura doesn't go a rich golden colour like regular batter. Probably 30 seconds is all that is needed.

Remove the tempura ice cream ball and serve it straight away while it is still crispy. A little bit of icing sugar on top is nice.

Yum, eat it up!

There are lots of Crunky sweets from Lotte, most are chocolate bars and similar but this is the Lotte Cruncky Chocolate Ice (ice cream)

This Japanese ice cream is pretty good. The ice cream in the middle is a really creamy and soft vanilla ice cream and the outer is chocolate that is not too sweet and has kind of like biscuit crumbs in the chocolate.

This is one of my sons favourite ice cream, it isn’t really expensive and you can get it at lots of stores.

Japanese Haagen Daz Ice Cream.This ice cream brand is super popular in Japan, not sure why as I think it is only 'OK' ice cream. Maybe because it's from the USA and the people from Japan seem to love all from there. They do have a good flavour range though.

In the photo is Green Tea, Vanilla, Custard Pudding, Strawberry, Rum and Raisin, Black Sesame, Apple Pie, Red Bean, Chocolate, Rich Milk, Cookies and Cream, Caramel Ice cream sandwich, Green Tea and Brown sugar ice cream sandwich, Cafe Latte ice cream sandwich, Vanilla almond.
There is also some new ones like Salty Butter biscuit ice cream (really good), cream cheese raspberry (like cheesecake) and Panna Cotta ice cream sandwich.

Six Flavour Japanese Ice Cream.
I think I have posted about one of these big beauties before. (here it is , not quite as big as this one). Well it seems that this one has an extra two flavours of soft cream. The flavours from the bottom to the tap are Melon, Strong Milk, Banana, Green Tea, Chocolate and Strawberries & Milk. Fairly impressive isn't it - well it looked really good but it tasted just like any other soft serve ice cream.

Another Japanese Ice Cream post.
This soft serve ice cream is from the Furano Cheese factory. Of course it has cheese but it also has a pizza factory and an ice cream factory. Now this place has black cheese that has squid ink in it so I was expecting the ice cream to be a bit wild as well. The Hokkaido region is very famous for their super high quality milk and from that milk - super delicious Japanese ice cream is made!

The most popular ice cream served there is White ice cream which is a white cheese ice cream - tasted OK, there is also grape juice, pumpkin and sugar cane flavours. The texture and taste is not really like a regular ice cream, hard to describe - it has a kind of fresher taste, if that makes sense.

Japanese Jersey Milk Vanilla Ice-Cream Recipe

Continuing from the Jersey milk Monaka bar article, here is a great recipe to make your own super rich, creamy Japanese Jersey Milk ice-cream. It has a lovely not too strong vanilla flavour with nice vanilla specs throughout the ice cream. Very gourmet!
Homemade Jersey Milk Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe

150grams granulated sugar
3 egg yolks
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
one vanilla pod, split
small pinch of salt
3 cups of Jersey Cream
3 cups full Jersey Milk

Mix sugar, split vanilla bean (scrape the seeds out and put them into the milk as well), and salt in top of double boiler; with the Jersey milk. Place over boiling water and cook until slightly thickened, around 10 minutes or so, stirring occasionally. Remove the vanilla pod.
Then reduce the heat so that water in bottom part of boiler is on a simmer. Beat eggs slightly and stir the hot milk mixture into it a little at a time to make a custard (and not scrambled eggs). Cook over the hot water 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Remove from stove, chill. Add in the Jesrsey cream, add vanilla extract, stir a little then add it to your Japanese Ice Cream maker and churn until you get proper consistency. It makes around 2 litres of the creamiest vanilla ice cream you have ever had.

Japanese Jersey Milk Monaka Bar Ice Cream

There are many milk flavour ice creams in Japan. I'm never sure what they are supposed to taste like, possibly vanilla plus I know through the colour was that it was vanilla. This Jersey Milk Monaka bar is one of the best probably because Jersey milk has a high fat/ cream content, although I still prefer the Chocolate Monaka bar.

I suppose the Japanese ice cream tastes reminiscent of tinned sweet condensed milk. This is truly milky but that is what you'll assume seeing it's jersey milk. It's a full-size Japanese ice cream bar packed with authentic ice-cream not the normal iced-confectionary type ice-cream. Once you open the packet, you can smell the vanilla of the ice cream and the biscuit. The generous piece of icecream is incredibly smooth and velvety and the very first mouthful shows strong, genuine vanilla flavour. The icecream is creamy and sweet. This is what good vanilla ice cream ought to be like. The biscuit part does not possess a lot of flavour, however that's okay since its only a handy holder meant for the yummy ice-cream. The cookie cone is soft and not flaky so its good for eating a slightly melted bar. It's easy to sink your teeth into into, but doesn't crumble or fall apart. Another Monaka bar worth buying.

An amazing looking ice cream in our local Japanese restaurant. All of us chose to have the special ice-cream dessert, that is literally a triple-decker ice cream dish that kind of appears to be like akin to a volcano or a multi-coloured X-mas tree. The top layer is red bean ice cream, followed next to vanilla soy icecream and green tea ice cream. The green tea ice cream was a tad strong if you had it by it's self, nevertheless if you had it together with the creamy vanilla soy, the sweetness of the vanilla smoothed the flavours out pretty nicely. The red beans were cooked just right not too sweet like some places have. A good ice cream recipe to try at home.

I had this Japanese Fish shaped ice-cream the other day. Its a delicate crunchy wafer molded in a fish profile. Now being Japanese it could actually be fish ice cream but it is not. Inside is white vanilla icecream along with a layer of adzuki beans along at the base of it. Its really good. Both the beans and the ice cream is not too sweet and not too much ice cream or an excessive amount of red beans. I would certainly buy this again.

The cheesecake flavoured Cake Stick is Japanese icecream plus a little blueberry jam inside it. It is meant to be just like blueberry cheesecake that you can buy in coffee shops. It’s not smooth milk based icecream however, rather like a frozen icy kind of ice cream, akin to frozen yogurt or something. Very good but not great Japanese ice cream, though I find it a little bizarre to have artificially flavoured cheesecake icecream.

Yes, I know there are four ice cream containers but I can not remember what the 4th one was. Any way the three Japanese ice cream flavours are Melon Ice Cream, Cheese Ice Cream, Dark Sugar Ice Cream.

Hang on I do know the flavour of the fourth Japanese ice cream, it is just pain old Vanilla.

All were nice, the Dark Sugar one was excellent, like a burnt caramel flavour.

No Mochi Ice Cream recipe today. This wonderful looking ice cream is from the Japanese company called Glico. It is a huge soft serve with hard chocolate on it. I like how they made to be all striped by the chocolate running down the ice cream grooves. Nothing special about the ice cream taste, it was nice but the best thing is the looks.

I have finally got around to having instructions on How To Make Japanese Mochi Ice Cream At Home. It is really simple, any one can make this classic Japanese Ice Cream dessert, just follow this step by step recipe.

Everyone loves delicious mochi, right, little golfballs sized ice-cream covered by sweetened mochi. You bite into one... first chewy sweet bliss followed by the creamy cool ice-cream heaven.

A lot of store bought mochi are OK, like Mikawaya (they say they invented the Mochi Ice Cream), some are really nice ice cream, some not so nice but have you tried to make it yourself? It isn’t really hard and I am sure it is cheaper to just buy the Japanese ice cream mochi but it’s fun to do.

Mochi Ice Cream Recipe (around 8 servings)

Sweet rice powder 50g
Sugar 100g
Water 100ml
Ice cream 150-200g
Cornstarch as needed

1 spread cornstarch onto a cutting board (use plenty so the mochi dough does not stick to the cutting board)

2 Place the sweet rice powder into a bowl, glass is best, and add the water little at a time until it is mixed well. Then add the sugar and mix it well again.

3 Next, cover the bowl with plastic food wrap (leave a breather gap) and cook in the microwave - medium for 2 minutes. Mix with a wooden spoon (dip it in water) and cook for around one more minute.

4 You can tell the dough is ready when it turns shiny and smooth.

5 Dip your spoon in water then spread the sweet rice dough onto the cutting board as flat as possible. Remember the dough is hot so take care.

6 Cover the dough with corn starch and then flip it over. Then pull and stretch the edges and make the dough thinner.

7 Keep pulling and stretching until the dough is around 2 or 3 millimetres thin.

8 Leave to cool a little and when the dough is cool enough, cut it into rounds , use a bowl for the size.

9 You are left with nice round mochi sheets.

10 To freeze the dough, cover each layer of mochi sheet with plastic wrap and dusted with cornstarch then put it into the freezer.

11 Put the ice cream onto the centre of the mochi sheet. For a nice round mochi use an ice cream scoop. Mmm, strawberry.

12 Fold and join the edges and then back in the freezer until it’s eating time!

This is how your mochi ice cream should look, Strawberry and Green Tea Mochi. It's best to eat these when they're slightly thawed, or else it's like biting into a little ball of rock and we all know that would be no fun:)

TIP, you can use a mochi ice cream container ( the tray from mochi you have bought in a store) to help form the shape .

A Japanese cafe with a huge, huge range of soft serve ice cream. The flavours? Try vanilla, blueberry, vanilla & green tea, banana, caramel, Hokkaido melon, mikan orange peel, vanilla & chocolate, vanilla & strawberry, chestnut, black sesame and sweet potato … few!! And not in the photo - cappuccino, tofu, peanut and grape.

The photo looks like the shop assistant has a funny ice cream hat, doesn’t it.

Japanese Green Tea and Taro Soft Ice Cream

Back to our real favourite style of Japanese Ice Cream, soft cream. We like it much better than regular ‘hard’ ice cream.

This is a yummy combination of Japanese Matcha ice cream (Green Tea of course, and green in colour) and Taro ice cream (I think it is called sato potato and it was a very, very pale purple/lilac colour).

Taro ice cream is much like Ube ice cream, same kind of root potato vegetable except Ube is more purple and tastes faintly like a vanilla sweet potato.

McDonalds Japanese McFlurry Ice Cream

Here are a couple of photos from a Japanese McDonalds. I haven’t seen the double sized Mega Big Mac back at home but it looks like it would be good.

The McFlurry was good, just like the Oreo ones back home except this one on special also had caramel flavoured bits as well.

This Japanese Ice Cream is like your own portable soft serve machine :) . As you can tell by the photo it is a little flexi bag thingy full of soft serve ice cream that you squeeze out into a bowl or cone .. or even just squeeze and suck it out if you can’t wait.

This one is Lotte brand and was Red bean and vanilla flavour and I have seen a chocolate chip vanilla ice cream one as well.

Green Tea Ice With Red Bean and Ice Cream Only In Japan

Nice looking Japanese ice cream dessert found at a little cafe. This delicious looking thing is green tea ice, topped with nice sweetened red beans and then on top of all that a good scoop of vanilla ice cream.

It is a bit of a strange concoction, I am not that great a fan of shaved ice and ice cream together but many Japanese (and, I have heard, Hawaiians) are. For me the recipe of creamy ice cream and watery ice just doesn’t gel.

This is an extra special Ice Cream from a tiny little Japanese restaurant. All the flavours were made at the restaurant and were really creamy.

So what do you think theses flavours are, Green Tea ice cream of course but the other two? The dark one looks like a simple chocolate ice cream but is actually Black Sesame and the other vanilla looking one it is chestnut. Superb. The chestnut ice cream was really great and I would like the recipe but it’s not as nice as the Japanese Haagen Daz Mont Blanc ice cream.

Japanese Ice Cream Faces

Japanese Ice Cream Faces, no it is not an ice cream flavour or Japanese ice cream recipes but a little web site from a lovely Japanese girl that makes little sculptures in her ice cream.
I guess she is very talented and because it is ice cream she would really have to work fast before the Japanese ice cream melts. She says there is one must do rule - eat the ice cream after you make the face, don't waste it. :)

Pino Japanese Bite Sized Ice Cream

These little Japanese Ice Creams are delicious. Each Pino is just a little mouthsized portion of flavoured ice cream dipped in chocolate.
I like the mango one better the the green tea, the mango ice cream has a nice fresh taste.

Green Tomato and Wasabi Ice Cream Recipe

I was aked if there were any Green Tomato Ice Cream recipes but I couldn't find any. There are lots of Green Tea ice cream recipes though!
Anyway, I thought I will make my own Green Tomato and Wasabi Ice Cream. Tomato is a fruit so I guess it isn't so wierd as ice cream and the wasabi gives it just a little bite.

Ingredients

2-3 Green Tomatoes
400ml cream
3 egg yolks
100g castor sugar
1 tsp Wasabi paste

Method

Wash then peel the green tomatoes (drop in boiling water for a couple of minutes then plunge in ice water to peel skin easily).
Blend and strain tomatoes to make a green tomato puree.
Pour the tomato puree into a saucepan and simmer until it has reduced to 150ml
Once the tomatoes have reduced, place in a container in the freezer until cold.
Add the cream,egg,sugar and wasabi in a saucepan and cook over very low heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spatula until the mixture starts steaming and thickens slightly. Set aside in the refrigerater until cold.
When both mixtures have cooled, pour the puree into the egg mixture and lightly whisk to combine.
Pour into the ice cream machine and process.
Enjoy!

Yokohama Ice Cream Expo

Japanese Ice Cream fans enjoyed the Yokohama Ice Cream Expo with thousands of people visiting. The organiser, Manabu Matsumoto, said that the beef tongue ice cream from Miyagi Prefecture was the most popular Ice Cream at the expo.

"We have ice cream from all over Japan – from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south – but beef tongue has been the one that people keep coming back for," he said.

More than 125 varieties of ice cream have been available in the two week festival, including cheese, octopus, prawn and a garlic variety called Dracula's Premium Ice Cream. Another strange or different Japanese Ice cream was flavoured with very finely sliced pieces of pearl from Japans traditional pearl-growing region, mmm crunchy!
Most were selling for around Y300 to Y800 ($2.75-$7.00) for a little tub of ice cream. Most of these ice creams were real acquired tastes.
Many Japanese regions attempt to cash in on local produce, by inventing ice creams that incorporate their tastes, like the Jellyfish Ice Cream from Rakuten, complete with chunks of Jellyfish!.

Marunaga Japanese Plum Flower Ice Cream

These little Japanese ice creams from Marunaga look absolutely fantastic. I haven't tried one, yet, but I am betting that they would be yummy. There are two flavours, both with Red Bean in the middle. I think I would like the Vanilla with nice sweet, tender Red Beans rather than the Green Tea with Red Bean.
And the shape of these little ice creams is meant to be shaped like a flower from a plum tree, pretty.
Marunaga say they were good enough to win a Gold medal in Europe for these Vanilla ice creams and people wrote in for Green Tea flavour so they started making that as well.

Simple Japanese Red Bean Ice Cream Recipe

I haven't posted many Japanese Ice Cream recipes so I am starting to from now.
This ice cream recipe is really good - Japanese Red Bean Ice Cream. I have made Red Bean (azuki) ice cream before but it was a big effort to make, this ice cream recipe is very simple. So here you go a very simple Red Bean Ice Cream to make and enjoy at home. Double Yum :)

Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
1 cup milk
1 1/2 cups sweetened red bean paste
1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream

Method
1) Beat sugar and egg yolks in a large bowl until it's pale and yellow then set aside.
2) Bring the milk to a boil in a heavy saucepan and then turn off heat.
3) Slowly whisk hot milk into the yolk and sugar mixture. Pour the entire mixture back into the heavy saucepan.
4) Put the saucepan on a very low heat and stir constantly, till it thickens. Do not let it boil! (You are basically making a custard here)
5) Take the mixture off the heat and whisk in the red bean paste really well. Strain the whole mixture into a large bowl to remove lumps.
6) Let it cool for a few minutes and then stir in the cream. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
7) Process according to your ice cream maker's instructions.
8) Important step - share with friends and enjoy this great Japanese Ice Cream!

Japanese Haagen Daz Mont Blanc ice cream. I keep reading that Haagen Daz makes the best ice cream in Japan but I think it is popular because it is a US company and Japan seems to love anything American. I had their Green Tea ice cream and it was nice but not the best I have had.
This flavour is very very good though, nice and creamy. I had no idea what the flavour should have been as all I know is Mont Blanc is a brand of pens! It is actually a chesnut vanilla ice cream, mmm .
I will buy it again!

Is this the strangest Japanese Ice Cream around? I have already posted about Jellyfish Ice Cream, Oyster Ice Cream and Natto Ice Cream (have you seen or tasted Natto , yuck), well this one is up there with them - Salmon Ice Cream! It is soft serve mixed with dried salmon made into a pebbly texture - that would mean fishy lumps in ice cream ... not for me thank you.

How to buy the Best Japanese Ice Cream maker

I have posted a couple of times some recipes on a some delicious Japanese Ice Cream. Ones I remember were homemade Japanese Green Tea and Soy Sauce Ice Cream and the yummy, plain Japanese Matcha Ice Cream .

You can make yummy Japanese ice cream at home, as good as any first class store brand, if you select a good quality ice cream maker and follow a few guidelines. Just as the best rice cookers are Japanese so are ice cream makers. Ice cream makers can vary in cost from less than $100 to more than than $500. The more expensive models have integrated freezing compressors , while the less costly Japanese ice cream makers are completely appropriate for use at home and come in two basic types. There is the type that needs rock salt and ice to chill the ice cream concoction and the model that has a container that is placed in your freezer. Both of these Japanese ice cream makers have either an electric crank or a hand crank. Your needs will decide which is right for you.

If you love to make a big amount of Japanese ice cream, you will need to pay for a machine that uses rock salt and ice. The canister models will only make up to one and a half litres of Japanese ice cream in a batch. If you would like to make Japanese ice cream production into a family activity, you can opt for the hand-crank version, it also uses rock salt and ice. The crank must be turned for quite a long time, so every family member gets a turn. The electric crank is a lot easier. You will also get more dependable results owing to the bowl turning at a steady speed. Most electric crank Japanese ice cream makers have an automated shut off feature that will stop the crank when the ice cream reaches the desired consistancy.

After you choose which type of ice cream maker is right for you, you will need to find the perfect Japanese ice cream recipe. Remember that the quicker the ice cream freezes, the better it will taste and the smoother the texture will be. It will be best to pre-mix all your ingredients and let them cool down for several hours before putting them in the Japanese ice cream machine. When your ice cream is ready, it will resemble soft-serve ice cream. You can then place the canister in the freezer for at least a couple of hours and you will get better results. If your canister is plastic, think about taking out the Japanese ice cream as soon as it is ready, and placing it in a metal bowl covered with foil. The metal will allow the ice cream to freeze quicker and become firmer quicker than in a plastic container.

You can buy a mix that is quite easy to make into ice cream very quickly. While the mixes are convenient, the best home-made Japanese ice cream is made from top quality,choice, fresh ingredients. Milk, sugar, eggs, matcha, red bean, green tea, wasabi and cocoa if you desire will give you the greatest results. You can find numerous Japanese ice cream recipes, some which need cooking some which require no cooking. The best ice cream recipes usually contain eggs, however there are many recipes that do not use eggs if you or someone in your family is allergic to them.

Japanese Chocolate Monaka Ice Cream

Japanese Choco Monaka Jambo (Chocolate Monaka Ice Cream). I have a sweet tooth, and this Japanese ice cream was given to me by a friend. At first looks, it's like an ice cream sandwich from any store, until you eat it. The outside crust of the Monaka is made of wafers the same as an ice cream cone and the insides is plain vanilla ice cream. In the middle Monaka ice cream sandwich, there is a layer of chocolate that's not too sweet, just nice.

The Japanese Monaka ice cream has different textures once once you bite into it. The wafer crust melts into the ice cream and then there is a crunch of the hard chocolate centre. The flavours go with each other as well. The Monaka isn't too sweet, because the wafer and chocolate take the sweet edge off the sweet Japanese ice cream. The only problem is that the Monaka wafer shell separate sometimes into two pieces and you end up with sticky hands afterwards.

Green Tea and Soy Sauce Ice Cream recipe

Green Tea and Soy Sauce Ice Cream recipe
(Servings: 4)
- 3 egg yolks
- 125g (4 1/2 oz.) granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- 200 ml milk
- 100 ml heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons (10g) granulated sugar for whipping heavy cream
- 1 Cup strongly brewed green tea (1 1/2 Teaspoons green tea leaves, with 250 ml boiled, not boiling, hot water)

Mix egg yolks with sugar and soy sauce.

Add milk to the egg mixture and strain. Cook over very low heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spatula until the mixture starts steaming and thickens slightly.

Remove from heat and put pan in cold water; mix in cold green tea.

Process mixture in an ice cream maker until partially frozen. Add heavy cream that has been whipped with sugar until soft peaks form. Continue processing until the mixture hardens.
-
Serve with nuts or praline.

note that this japanese green tea ice cream isn't a strong green colour compared to others, I think the commercial green tea ice cream that is around must add colouring

For those who don't know what Anmitsu is... it is a Japanese dessert that has been popular for many decades. The shop, designed for ice-cream-makers Ronó in Nagoya, Japan , has a stark, colourless interior that is nothing like a traditional Italian gelateria. The shop is arranged around a sharp-edged, clinical white counter with the walls uniformly tiled, with the exception of one seamless mirrored wall.
“I used muted colours to enhance the colour of the ice-cream,” says Miyake, the shop designer. “The space brightens the ice-cream like a jewel.” The mirrored wall creates two illusions, doubling the size of a small space and making a simple black picture frame and its contents appear to float in mid-air.
Looks more like a hospital or morgue to my eyes, what do you think?

Did I ever tell you how much I like Japanese Ice Cream? Well here's something that will probably soothe any sweet tooth - 2kg giant parfait that costs a hefty 3,800 yen (US$35) - on sale at the Kijima Amusement Park called the Queen Fruits Ice Cream Parfait.

The dessert consists of 3 kinds of ice cream, pancakes, cream puffs, and fruits. And, it looks like I see a whole ice cream cone in there too, and lots of whipped cream. So far, nobody's finished the whole thing but if you finish the whole thing it's free.

Shirokuma is a Japanese ice cream which is a specialty of Kyusyu area (south side of Japan), but recently you can buy one, wherever you are in Japan.

Looking at this window of a Japanese Ice Cream shop I can see numbers to 97 but there are a few more ice creams without a number so I am guessing this place sells 100 different flavours (flavors for US friends). It is a bit hard to make out the flavours written on the card but some are Rose, Peanut, Pineapple, Wasabi and Pumpkin.

Cheese with rasberry ice cream.

Now I know we have cheese and fruit platters for after dinner and that's nice with a coffee but cheese with rasberries made into ice cream - umm, I don't think so.
The cheese is Fromage Blanc (well fromage is french for cheese) - it is a fresh cheese, not aged and soft a bit like thick yoghurt.

About Japan has a post about this premium ice cream from Dean and Deluca. Didn't like the strong taste or the rasberry seeds!

Soy sauce on your ice cream

Soy (soya) sauce topping.

I am not sure whether this would be nice but as some soy sauce are quite sweet (but still salty) maybe it would be OK. This soy sauce is used as a topping for your ice cream. Not sure where to buy this yet.

Squid Ink soft cream (ice cream).

A little Japanese shop selling squid ink soft cream ice cream.
You can have it just squid ink or half-half with vanilla, it actually looks preety nice mixed with the vanilla. Only 350 yen.

The little box of candy looks nice - shaped like sushi I think.

Doesn't this look delish (and cute as well)? Japanese Soft serve ice cream (soft cream), strawberry jelly with fruit and strawberry cake. Available as part of a buffet at Akasaka Square Dining, Akasaka Excel Hotel.

Japan is known for their yummy soft cream ice creams! This one is a mix of green tea and sweet potato. Boy it looks yummy, even better the the Lavender Ice Cream!
This was bought near the temples of Kamakura, Japan.

This would have to be the worst looking and, I would think, the worst tasting Japanese Ice Cream ever! I can't remember the site I saw this on but it was in Japan somewhere.
Wow, two crumbed and fried oysters in soft-serve ice cream - what type of person would think of that combination and what Japanese Ice Cream shop would sell it?

Japanese Red Bean ice cream

Japanese Red bean ice cream (Azuki Ice Cream).

Make your own!!

1 cup dry adzuki beans
1/3 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons lemon juice
3 1/2 cups water

1 cup milk
1 cup heavy cream
4 egg yolks
2/3 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract or 1 whole vanilla BEAN. (Use a knife to scrape the inards out of a whole vanilla bean)

In a saucepan, combine the azuki beans, 1/3 cup of sugar, lemon juice and water. Bring to a boil, and boil uncovered for 3 minutes. Reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until the beans are very tender. When done, the beans and liquid should amount to 3 cups. If not, add more water to compensate.
Strain the bean mixture through a sieve - I use a wooden paddle for this, and discard the bean skins. Refrigerate for about 2 hours, or until cold.
In a saucepan, combine the milk and cream. Bring to a boil over medium heat. While you wait for that to boil, whisk together the egg yolks and 2/3 cup of sugar in a medium bowl. When the cream and milk come to a boil, ladle about 1/4 cup of the hot liquid into the bowl with the egg yolks, and whisk until smooth. Pour the yolk mixture into the pan with the cream, and cook over low heat until thick enough to coat the back of a metal spoon. This should take about 5 minutes. Do not cook too long, or you will get lumps. Remove from the heat, and stir in the vanilla. Refrigerate until cold.
Once both of the mixtures are cold, stir them together. Pour into an ice cream maker, and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions.
